EMPEQ provides automated building equipment site surveys, energy audits, proposals, and financing solutions for the engineering and HVAC industries.
The company found they were adding so much information it was distracting to viewers and could impact sales. I was tasked with coming up with a new design concept that focused on sales.
I removed all images from the site, focusing on our branding of "Close more deals, faster." I contributed the "Faster. Period" branding concept and reorganized the site architecture, leading with information about our site survey app as opposed to financing.
While EMPEQ has since updated their design with new images and and interactive animations, the streamlined organization of my redesign is still in use. One of the most important aspects of the EMPEQ redesign is the site is modular and made to be quickly edited and updated - an asset for a Lean startup team that often uses A/B testing of webpages to refine marketing campaigns.
There was an excessive amount of information on the original homepage. Certain items would often not render properly. The image the the right captures the original EMPEQ homepage at, perhaps, it's most distracting and confusing.
I removed the noise. I stuck with the most necessary information: what we do and how to contact us. I also focused on speed. The selling point of the app is speed, I wanted that reflected by the site. The streamlined nature of site should elicit the idea of speed - a quick one-two combo
Keeping my information architecture, site mapping, and initial design concept intact, EMPEQ continues to update my design as they refine their product and marketing.
Part of my responsibilities at EMPEQ included researching and finding commercial-sized HVAC nameplates in order to train and improve the automated site survey mobile application's optical character recognition (OCR).
I collected over fifty unique nameplates by searching sales of used HVAC equipment on eBay and by photographing commercial HVAC units in my neighborhood. My research was spread out over several brands in order to train the OCR to recognize information from all major HVAC brands.
I made many contributions to the user experience of both the automated site survey mobile application and the desktop portal. I also created marketing materials for email campaigns and social media.
